Albany Campus Redo
Job Training Modernization/Expansion and maintenance
Location: Albany campus
Proposed size: 92,000 square feet repurposed and modernized (not new construction)
Estimated cost: $12 million
Local employers have open positions because they are unable to find employees with the job skills to fill them. At the same time, the unemployment rate in a majority of the LBCC service district is well above the state average. Working directly with area industry, LBCC is aiming to double its capacity to provide job-training to fill that gap.
As auto/diesel and health care programs move to new facilities, the college has the opportunity to modernize and expand several key programs on its Albany Campus in welding, machine tool, and advanced manufacturing, and create programs that respond directly to industry needs, and put local people to work. This project also allows for classrooms vacated by these programs to be modernized and for critical maintenance to be addressed on the aging Albany campus.
